Grateful patients are encouraged to show appreciation by making a philanthropic gift
Holy Cross Health is proud to introduce the Healing Heroes program, a meaningful way for patients, families and donors to recognize the physicians, nurses, caregivers and staff who have made a lasting impact through their care. With a philanthropic gift, they not only honor exceptional service but also help advance Holy Cross Health’s mission of compassionate, patient-centered care. Each Healing Hero will receive a special pin and a personal note of gratitude, acknowledging the difference they’ve made in the lives of those they serve.
As part of Holy Cross’ efforts to introduce the Healing Heroes program, the Office of Philanthropy & Development joined the Medical Staff’s Doctor’s Day Luncheon. The event was a meaningful opportunity to celebrate physicians while sharing this new recognition program with the broader medical team. Several doctors in attendance had already been honored by grateful patients, highlighting the lasting impact of compassionate care.
“The Healing Heroes program is a reflection of what makes Holy Cross so special, the bond between caregivers and those they serve,” said Laura Denoux, vice president and chief development officer at Holy Cross Health. “Some of the most powerful moments in healthcare happen quietly, at the bedside or during a simple conversation. The Healing Heroes program shines a light on those moments and gives patients a way to turn their appreciation into something enduring.”
Since its launch, Holy Cross Health has received more than 40 tribute gifts from grateful patients and families through the Healing Heroes program. As Nurses and Hospital Weeks approach in May, Holy Cross looks forward to this continued outpouring of appreciation and recognition.
One grateful patient, Shirley, shared, “Had it not been for Dr. Pineda’s insistence and sincere caring of a patient that she had just met for the first time, this nodule that was 2 cm would have grown and spread…before I ever knew there was a problem. All my doctors have been wonderful throughout this entire process, but Dr. Pineda is my angel. She started the process in saving my life.”
Donors may contribute any monetary amount they feel comfortable giving and direct their funds to an area of the hospital that means the most to them. This includes cancer, heart and vascular, orthopedics, neurosciences, Institute for Nursing Excellence, medical equipment and technology, or they can customize their donation.
The funds raised through the Healing Heroes campaign advance Holy Cross Health’s mission of providing exceptional care to the Broward community and shapes their vision of a healthier future for all. Honoring a Healing Hero supports vital healthcare initiatives and fosters a culture of gratitude while uplifting and inspiring Holy Cross Health’s dedicated healthcare workers.
Donations may be made online, by check, wire transfer, donor-advised fund, IRA distribution, planned gift, tribute gift and more.
