Homestead Public Services (HPS) Energy received national commendation from the American Public Power Association for its support to restore electric power to the community of Lafayette, LA in the wake of Hurricane Delta earlier this year.
A crew of seven HPS Energy employees departed from Homestead in October to assist Lafayette Utilities System after Hurricane Delta caused widespread outages and devastating damage. Hurricane Delta was a brutal Category 4 Hurricane and the record-tying fourth named storm of 2020 to strike Louisiana.
“We’ve seen the devastation that these storms can bring and HPS and our customers have benefitted from mutual aid in the past. It was an honor to return the favor and help our neighbors get their lives back to normal,” said Barbara Quiñones, director of HPS Energy.
HPS Energy participates in the American Public Power Association’s Mutual Aid Network, which coordinates with utilities and authorities during widespread power outages.
