HPS Sanitation advises customers of nationwide Supercan shortage
Homestead Public Services (HPS) Sanitation employee is pictured with a Supercan.

Homestead Public Services (HPS) Sanitation, much like other waste collection utilities across the country, currently is dealing with a nationwide shortage of rolling plastic waste containers, commonly known as Supercans.

This nationwide shortage has caused delays in providing new or replacement cans to HPS Sanitation customers.

Currently, HPS Sanitation is working with suppliers to receive new Supercans as quickly as possible. However, the shortage is due to COVID-19 impacts experienced by the manufacturer of the garbage containers, as well as difficulty obtaining the raw materials used to make the Supercans. Therefore, the typical delivery time for an order has increased nearly 600 percent and there is a waiting list for new orders.

HPS Sanitation recently received a delivery of nearly 400 Supercans and already has begun addressing the backlog of customer requests.
