A Flood Watch is still in effect for Davie
The Town of Davie will provide self-serve sandbags to Davie residents at 6591 Orange Drive (old Town Hall site). The distribution will occur today, October 7, 2024, from 2 p.m. until supplies last. To access the site, residents must enter from SW 42nd Street, and then go south to the site (see map below).
There is a limited supply. Each vehicle will only receive ten bags of sand. Proof of residency is required (a government-issued photo ID, a document that shows your Davie address such as a tax bill, TRIM notice, or voter registration).
The Town continues to urge residents to take all the necessary precautions to ensure they are safe.
A flood watch remains in effect for South Florida, including Davie through October 10, 2024, as heavy rainfall is expected across the region.
Sandbag Placement
Sandbags help to reduce water from seeping into your home. The best placement for sandbags is by laying them down, flat against your door in a staggered manner, like bricks on a wall. You can also place a tarp or plastic sheet at the base of your door prior to laying down the sandbags.
Sandbag Disposal After the Storm
As we continue to push into the hurricane season, uncontaminated sandbags can be reused and stored in a clean, dry place for future use. You can also reuse the sand from the bags in your garden, like in planters or flowerbeds.
For sandbags that are too worn or damaged for reuse, proper disposal is essential to maintain a clean environment. Sandbags that have been in contact with floodwater should be placed in the garbage bin for regular trash pick-up.
