Jewish Family Home Care Assists Seniors Facing Unexpected Emergencies with Crucial Fund

According to the “The Silver Tsunami: Is Broward Ready?” study conducted by the Community Foundation of Broward, Broward County has the fastest-growing 85+ population in the state of Florida and is projected to grow to more than 63,000 residents by 2030.

Unexpected emergencies can happen to anyone at any time, but they can be especially devastating for seniors who are on a fixed income.Jewish Family Home Care (JFHC) – a not-for-profit agency offering comprehensive, non-medical quality home care for Broward County, Florida seniors of all backgrounds and faiths – offers help for seniors to navigate emergencies confidently.

For seniors with financial challenges, JFHC’s Community Impact Fund provides vital crisis intervention, offering temporary resources and home health care for seniors when financial assistance is not available or no other family members or community resources are sufficient. The fund was designed to help seniors who have limitations on income afford home health care. To receive services from the Community Impact Fund, applicants must apply through Jewish Family Home Care and fulfill admission criteria including being below 200% of the poverty level per Federal guidelines.

The funds allocated are based on income and are for short-term home health services, of eight hours a week for a maximum of 10 weeks, to stabilize clients in emergency or crisis situations. This will enable clients to reach a level of functioning that will allow them to transition to funded home health services. Whether a struggling senior is awaiting a long-term care insurance policy to take effect, recovering from an unexpected surgery or needing support with daily living activities and essential self-care skills due to an illness, JFHC’s Community Impact Fund provides much-needed reassurance at a critical time.

Services include personal care, in-home respite, homemaker services, light meal planning and preparation and medication reminders. The goal is to ensure the individual is in a safe environment, reduce the potential for re-hospitalization or institutionalization and ensure nutritional intake is appropriate.

JFHC stands as a pillar of support, delivering multi-reach, non-medical quality home care to seniors across Broward County. JFHC is one of the largest providers of home health care, assisting Holocaust survivors and anyone in Broward County needing in-home care. Providing service to more than 400 clients, JFHC offers services such as home health aides, companions, housekeepers and certified nursing assistants. It delivers tailor-made home health care plans, with special consideration to patients’ physical and emotional needs, as well as their family’s budget.
