For a City’s progression, it’s not just safety, proper infrastructure, and essential programming that are important.
Beauty plays a considerable role as well. From public art to the simplicity of a well-tended neighborhood park, the aesthetics of a community are integral to shaping its identity and fostering its residents’ well-being.

The Keep Miami Gardens Beautiful (KMGB) program advocates for healthier, cleaner, more beautiful public spaces through community engagement, public awareness, and partnerships. Program Manager Suzanne Newman says that members of the KMGB Advisory Board have been working towards introducing education on recycling,
gardening, and environmental stewardship activities to local schools. The goal is to plan new programs and encourage participation in existing ones, like Adopt-A-Road, community enhancement opportunities, and Neighborhood Watch groups. Meetings have been scheduled with various educators, residents, and business organizations to coordinate future beautification projects. KMGB has also been working collaboratively with government agencies, City Councilmembers, and various local organizations to host community cleanups, further expanding the organization’s reach throughout Miami-Dade County. One notable accomplishment has been KMGB’s partnership with Neat Streets Miami and their “Growing Roots for Environmentally Equitable Neighborhoods” (GREEN) matching grant. The initiative facilitated the planting of more than 100 trees along N.W. 32nd Avenue and N.W. 180th Street. Another success was the recent collaboration with Top Golf. Volunteers collected more than 1,300 pounds of trash along N.W. 7th Avenue.

In an exciting development, Keep Miami Gardens Beautiful received the Keep America Beautiful President’s Circle Award, highlighting the organization’s exemplary commitment to enhancing the community while also reaffirming its status as a key player in Miami Gardens’ ongoing transformation.

Looking ahead, KMGB has a full calendar of events and beautification projects planned for the remainder of 2023, including teaming up with Councilmember Linda Julien and Mayor Rodney Harris on community cleanups. The program is also gearing up for various activities in 2024, notably the Arbor Day Drive-Thru Tree Giveaway in April and the Great American Cleanup in June.
