Keep Your Eye On The Ball & The Pitch Clock!

A Championship Mindset
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

This baseball season is already flying by – literally. The speed of the game is faster than ever and more exciting.

With the new pitch clock in play, pitchers have 15 seconds to throw a pitch with the bases empty and 20 seconds with a runner on base.

Our players, like the rest of MLB, have made adjustments to the new pace, and the fans seem to be embracing the quicker pace of play.

A great example was Sandy Alcantara’s 1-0 shutout win over the Twins during our first homestand, which came in just 1 hour, 57 minutes. That’s fast – one of the fastest games I’ve ever been a part of. Overall, the average time of game this season is about half hour shorter than last year’s average, which clocked in at just over three hours.

With the games moving more quickly, there isn’t much room for anything other than action. And, keeping it tight and action-packed is the name of the game now. We’re looking for more hits, more stolen bases and keeping pressure on the other teams with an aggressive running game overall.

Another game changer – the new shift rule. Beginning this season all four infielders are now required to stand on the dirt or infield grass with two players on each side of second base. Prior to this season, teams could stack all their infielders on one side of the infield to try and gain a competitive advantage against the opposing hitters.

And let’s not forget about bigger bases, this season they’re 18 inches compared to the previous 15 inches in size. We’re aiming for fewer injuries and more stolen bags.

Our guys are making the needed adjustments and creating a very fun environment. Every single play and minute of the game counts. The added excitement and swift pace of the game is keeping fans on the edge of their seats. If you look away, you just might miss an awesome play. I know what it’s like from inside the dugout – but I’m sure as a fan either at the stadium or watching on TV, it makes for a more enjoyable experience!

The new pace allows you to think about how you can take in a Marlins game. Bring the kids and family to a game on a school night, or enjoy a post-work outing and still make it to your dinner reservation – the clock is ticking and we would love to see you at loanDepot park!
