The Kiwanis Club of Homestead-South Dade’s 36th annual Dolphin Days Family Fishing Tournament (DolphinDays.org), one of South Florida’s oldest family-fun fishing competitions, returns June 10-12.

Benefitting the Homestead Kiwanis Foundation, the tournament is making its comeback after last year’s pandemic-related cancellation. The 2021 version is co-sponsored by the Military Affairs Council and funds raised will benefit the children of the Homestead-South Dade community, local charities, military families and community service projects.

The tournament, which will feature more than $7,500 in prizes, begins June 10 at 6 p.m. with the kickoff party/captain’s meeting/auction at Texas Roadhouse, 33250 S. Dixie Hwy.

Fishing day is June 12, with weigh-in at Exit One Taproom, 12 NE Third St. in Florida City.

“Having this tournament after last year’s cancellation is just one more symbol that our community is back,” said Homestead Councilmember Erica G. Ávila, Kiwanis Lt. Governor and tournament co-chair. “This will be a great, fun event that raises funds for one of South Florida’s most active community service organizations and honors our military by allowing kids and active/reserve military to fish for free. We really appreciate the fishing community’s support and partnership with the Military Affairs Council to expand our reach in serving the children and families in and around the City of Homestead and South Dade.”

One of the highlights of this year’s tournament is the wide variety of highly sought prizes in the silent auction part of the event. Among those items (all based upon availability) are:

• An Interval International “Dream Week” at any of more than 1,000 resorts in Interval’s exchange network in 80 countries around the world.

• A five-day, four-night stay at world-famous Casa de Campo resort in the Dominican Republic.

• A seven-night stay at luxurious Silver Lake Resort in Kissimmee in a two-bedroom villa.

Early bird tournament entry fees before June 1 are $350 for up to four anglers, with each additional angler costing $100. After June 1— and up to 8 p.m. the night of the Captain’s Party — entry fees are $450 a boat and $125 for additional anglers.

In addition to boat entries, a variety of sponsorships are still available.
