The Miami Heat were looking to take advantage of their early success in Madison Square Garden as they hit the road in search of another win against the New York Knicks. Unfortunately for the Heat, they were without their star forward Jimmy Butler who suffered an ankle injury during game 1. The Heat decided to sit him out in hopes that he would recover in time for game 3 on Saturday.
The Knicks, on the other hand, welcomed back Julius Randle to their lineup after he missed game 1. Randle has been a crucial player in the team’s recent success, and his return gave them a boost of confidence heading into the game.
The Heat played well for most of the game, holding the lead for nearly 30 minutes. However, in the final minutes of the game, the Knicks went on a 21-7 scoring run that proved to be insurmountable for the Heat. Controversial calls, such as the Bam Adebayo foul to Isaiah Hartenstein while Jalen Brunson was in shooting motion leading to a four-point play as well as the bucket from Gabe Vincent being waived off as a shot-clock violation, further added to the Heat’s woes.
Despite Butler’s absence, the Heat’s role players stepped up in a big way. Caleb Martin led the team with 22 points and 8 rebounds, while Gabe Vincent added 21 points and 5 assists. Max Strus chipped in with 17 points, and Bam Adebayo contributed 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.
The Knicks, however, had their own star performers. Jalen Brunson had a game-high 30 points and 5 rebounds, while Randle made his presence felt with 25 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists. RJ Barrett added 24 points to help secure the victory for the Knicks.
With the series now tied 1-1, both teams will head back to Miami for games 3 and 4. The Heat will be hoping that Butler will be available to play, while the Knicks will look to continue their momentum and take the lead in the series. It promises to be an exciting couple of games as both teams battle it out for a chance to advance in the playoffs.
