As part of Sheriff Gregory Tony’s ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability, the Broward Sheriff’s Office has released its 2021-2022 annual report detailing the work accomplished by more than 5,600 BSO employees who protect and serve the community.
The comprehensive report outlines the budget, number of personnel positions, and performance measures and outcomes of each department that comprises BSO. At more than 170 pages, the report provides an overview of the agency while also allowing the reader to gain a detailed understanding of each unit and division within BSO.
The annual report also consists of highlights of accomplishments from 2021-2022, including the outstanding efforts of our Aviation Unit, which flew 3,000 missions, assisted in 1,000 arrests, recovered 236 vehicles, and located 17 missing or endangered persons. The unit is recognized for winning the 2022 Leadership in Police Aviation Award from the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
The report also spotlights the agency’s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport district participation in a FEMA full-scale exercise, BSO’s Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Service Training unit’s recognition as the agency’s 2021 Unit of the Year for planning, coordinating, and conducting training for our more than 850 fire rescue employees, and the agency’s Department of Detention unit for hiring additional mental health specialists to support the mental well-being of our inmate population.
Another notable endeavor mentioned in the report is the department’s dedication to fighting crime through education, mentorship, and community service through its Neighborhood Support Team unit.
“Every action we take is made with you, the resident, in mind,” Sheriff Gregory Tony said. “BSO is as much your sheriff’s office as ours, and this report was created so you can see exactly how we work for you.”
