The Miami-Dade County Office of Resilience and the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs’ Arts Resilient 305 program, in collaboration with Artists in Residence in Everglades (AIRIE), ARTSail, and Bas Fisher Invitational (BFI), are engaging and educating the public, creating awareness of climate change issues and presenting projects by 11 local artists at the 15th Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit taking place on November 16 and 17, 2023 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

“These artistic activations will add a unique Miami-Dade flair to this important event,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Artists and creators are truly helping our community gain a better understanding of our changing climate and the importance of acting now, as well as bringing everyone into the conversation. Artists demand that we look at the problem through a new lens, which helps us think creatively to find solutions to the climate crisis.”

The Climate Leadership Summit is a major event that attracts over 800 innovative thinkers and leaders from the business, government, academic, and nonprofit communities to exchange dialogue and ideas on expanding the region’s capacity to respond to climate challenges and build climate resilience.

“We are proud to collaborate with the Office of Resilience to present unique art commissions that will create awareness and encourage the public to mobilize to address the vital issues of climate change,” said Marialaura Leslie, Director of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs. “The visual, performing and media artists are contributing their diverse voices through powerful works of art that amplify and advance the crucial issues discussed at the Summit in innovative and inspiring ways.”

The various public art commissions, created by the three Miami-based organizations and their 11 local artists aim to create awareness and generate a dialogue regarding the climate challenges faced by our community.
