Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava issues a statement in reaction to the Biden administration’s reimposed sanctions on Venezuela’s oil industry after Maduro violated agreements to ensure fair elections.

“Today’s actions to reimpose sanctions on Venezuela is welcomed, as it sends a clear message that the disqualification of presidential candidate Maria Corina Machado by the Maduro regime is a blatant attack on the electoral process and undermines our democratic values.

“The Venezuelan government continues to deny basic human rights in violation of the Barbados Accord, and the Biden administration’s swift response imposing sanctions once again reaffirms we stand in solidarity with the Venezuelan people including the thousands who call Miami-Dade home.”
