On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Commissioner Eileen Higgins, District 5, were presented with the signature “Serving the Arts Award” at the 2024 Serving the Arts Awards ceremony held at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium. The signature Serving the Arts Award was presented in recognition of their outstanding leadership in supporting local artists and cultural institutions during the COVID-19 Pandemic with critical federal COVID-relief funds. The emergency funding had an indelible impact and provided a lifeline to entire nonprofit cultural community.
“It is a great honor to share this award with Commissioner Higgins,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Levine Cava. “Arts and culture are such an important component of our economy, and I am proud that we were able to use critical funding to save jobs and institutions during the COVID pandemic that are an integral part of this vital sector and help to secure its brighter future.”
The event, presented by the Arts and Business Council of Miami in partnership with the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, brought together business, cultural and community leaders to recognize 27 honorees for their continued commitment to advancing arts and culture. In attendance were Miami-Dade County Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III; Commissioner Marleine Bastien; and Commissioner Raquel A. Regalado, who presented the Arts and Accessibility Award.
Among the honorees were Miami-Dade County Commissioner Keon Hardemon, recognized with the Elected Official of the Year Award; Monty Trainer recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award; PNC Bank recognized with the Corporate and Cultural Partners Award; and Miami-Dade County Artist in Residence Xavier Cortada recognized with the Arts and Environment Award. The inaugural Miami-Dade County Mayor’s Legacy in Arts Award was presented to cultural leader Rosie Gordon-Wallace, President and Curator of the Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator.
