Miami-Dade County Parks’ Arch Creek Park  will host its annual “Meet at the Bridge” event, in celebration of Florida Archeology Month and the park’s 50 years as a designated State of Florida archeological site. This living history experience allows visitors to see how the area’s first settlers enjoyed picnicking at the “historic limestone bridge” and exploring the many wonders of the park. The event will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

“Arch Creek Park is a jewel of our Miami-Dade County parks system,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “This is not just a park but also an important archaeological site and museum, and offers and interactive experience reflecting a time gone by. It remains a wonderful place where residents and their families and friends have shared memories and can create new ones.”

Admission to the festivities is free and includes live music provided by Eric King and Joel Heinen, crafts, archery, historical nature walks, a native plant sale, and plantings of native coontie. There will also be a classic car and fire truck on display, a poem reading by Hannah Lasky on the Atala Butterfly, and special guest presentations: “3,000 Years of Arch Creek Heritage” by Bob Carr, Executive Director of the Archeological and Historical Conservancy and “The Atala Butterfly: Getting by with a little help from our friends” by Sandy Koi. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

“Fifty years of Arch Creek Park’s serving as a historic archeological site in this community is extraordinary,” said Miami-Dade County Parks Director Maria I. Nardi. “This park is incredibly rich in history and is the backdrop to family gatherings, as well as a significant contributor to our community’s environmental preservation, recreation, and cultural experiences.  We take tremendous pride in Arch Creek Park as a vital part of our parks system, and I am thrilled to share its history with Miami-Dade County’s residents at this commemorative event.”

This activity is being presented by Miami-Dade Parks’ EcoAdventures in partnership with Arch Creek Trust.

About Arch Creek
The 9.4-acre Arch Creek Park was created around a natural limestone bridge formation that was once part of an important Native American trail.  It is believed to have first been used by the Tequesta tribe and later by the Seminoles. The park is a bird and wildlife sanctuary, containing nature trails with tropical hardwood hammocks and pines; and has as museum/nature center modeled after an early Florida settlers home that displays Native American artifacts. There are also programs for children and adults, a butterfly garden, picnic shelters and tables, and restrooms.
