Miami-Dade Students Gear Up for Electrathon EV Race at Opening Weekend of Miami International Auto Show

Miami-Dade County high school students interested in future careers in the STEM field and electric vehicle industry are hitting the indoor track at this year’s Miami International Auto Show, on Saturday, Aug. 31, in a first-ever Electrathon student race.

In an event where the objective is efficiency – not speed but distance on a single charge – students will race their newly built electric go-karts, thanks to a donation and support from Florida Power & Light Company (FPL).

The big picture: FPL is powering future STEM leaders thanks to its support of the Electrathon America program. The company donated EV-building kits and provided training and teacher stipends, to help students across the state – including several Miami-Dade County Public schools – design and fabricate their vehicles this past 2023-24 school year. The program culminated with an electrifying race at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in June.

Now, FPL is bringing the thrill of Electrathon to the Miami Auto Show – in a first-ever student race that will take place at EV Test Track Powered by FPL EVolution.
