On Thursday, February 8, the Miami-Dade County Elections Department will mail vote-by-mail ballots to voters with a request on file for the March 19 Presidential Preference Primary Election. Overseas voters have already received their vote-by-mail ballots. The Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections Christina White will be available to talk to media promptly at 10:00 a.m.
Voters are reminded to:
- Ensure the ballot is received by the Elections Department by Election Day, March 19 by 7 p.m.
- Sign inside the white box on the back of the return envelope
- Ensure the signature on the mail ballot envelope matches the signature on file
- Return their ballot by mail or place it in a secure ballot intake station located outside all 23 early voting locations
- No postage is necessary when mailing a vote-by-mail ballot back to the Elections Department
Voters who have not requested a vote-by-mail ballot have until 5 p.m. on March 7th. There are several ways to request mail ballots:
- Online via the Elections Department website
- By emailing votebymail@miamidade.gov
- By phone at (305) 499-8444
- By mail to 2700 NW 87 Ave., Miami, FL 33172
It is important for voters to know their party affiliation because Florida is a closed primary State, meaning that only voters who are registered members of a political party may vote in their respective party primary election.
This year, only the Republican Party will hold a Presidential Preference Primary (PPP) Election on March 19, 2024. The Florida Democratic Party only provided one candidate nominee. Therefore, a PPP ballot for the Florida Democratic Party is not needed to determine party voters’ preferred party candidate nominee. In addition, all registered voters residing in the municipalities of South Miami and Surfside are eligible to vote on their municipal ballot content.
