As many ‘firsts’ are occurring throughout the nation during these unprecedented times, the City of Miami Gardens would like to salute our women leaders who are at the forefront, and recognize their historic ‘firsts’ in our community.

COUNCILWOMAN SHANNON CAMPBELL
First Legacy Councilmember
“I’m honored to be the next generation of the Campbell family who gains the same political office as their parent. Serving on the Miami Gardens City Council allows the legacy to continue. Also, it shows our focus is positive forward progress.”

Councilwoman Campbell is the daughter of former Councilman Aaron Campbell.

COUNCILWOMAN SHANNAN IGHODARO
First Bahamian-American and First Spouse to Serve Consecutively
“When I think about what it means to be the first Bahamian-American to serve on the City Council I think about the changing dynamics of our City’s demographics and the tremendous growth we have experienced in our 18 short years as a City. Just over 25 years ago, I came to this City from Nassau Bahamas to study at Florida Memorial University. I am reminded of the importance all of our residents and the contributions that we all bring to our beloved City.

I understand first-hand the importance of being “Made in Miami Gardens.” We all have something to offer to help the City grow into a world class City where we can all live, work and play.

I am also blessed to be the first spouse elected to serve consecutively on the Miami Gardens City Council. My husband, Dr. Erhabor Ighodaro served as former Vice Mayor and Councilman from August 2012 – August 2020. I was subsequently elected on November 4, 2020 with over sixty-two percent (62%) percent of votes. This shows that the residents of Miami Gardens are not only selective in their choices for leadership, but also possess a progressive mindset.”

COUNCILWOMAN LINDA JULIEN
First Haitian-American Councilmember
“Our ancestors endured the plight, my parents’ struggle was not in vain, and I beat the odds to become the first Haitian-American to serve as a Councilwoman for Miami Gardens. Being entrusted by my constituents to affricate change is one of the most humbling experiences of my life. I am proud to have the opportunity to serve my community in this capacity, and look forward to being a role model for generations to come.”

POLICE CHIEF DELMA NOEL-PRATT
First Female Police Chief
“While growing up, I’ve always had goals and aspirations to do great things. I always knew that I would ultimately be in a leadership role, but I never thought that I would be a Police Chief. When I was offered this great opportunity, I was elated and truly honored to be selected as the first female Chief of such a great organization. I also knew there would be challenges, as well as rewards. One reward is the ability to mentor and guide others within this great profession. I don’t take my role for granted, instead, I am thankful to be a role model to little girls, and to other women who aspire to be upcoming leaders in law enforcement.”
