The Miami Jewish Film Festival (MJFF) is proud to announce the launch of its MJFF All Access Series, opening with the virtual premiere of Echoes of Loss: Eight Days in Israel. This poignant and powerful documentary delves into the profound grief that has enveloped Israel in the aftermath of the October 7 terror attacks. As the one-year anniversary of these tragic events approaches, the Festival reaffirms its commitment to fostering empathy and understanding through the power of cinema.
Echoes of Loss: Eight Days in Israel follows the journey of producer Rob Mor, who, while still mourning the loss of his wife to cancer, embarked on a solidarity trip to Israel after the October 7 attacks. Through his camera, Mor captures deeply personal moments as he meets families affected by the Hamas attacks—widows, widowers, grieving parents, and siblings. The film offers a moving portrait of a nation united in grief and resilience, exploring themes of loss, healing, and the unbreakable spirit of the Jewish people.
Running from October 4, 2024 through March 21, 2025, the MJFF All Access Series will present an outstanding selection of Jewish and Israeli films online, making available to the public festival favorites, critically acclaimed dramas, and award-winning works.
Supported by longtime sponsor Haber Law, the MJFF All Access Series is a timely and crucial program as it provides an accessible and inclusive platform for the community to engage with powerful stories during a time of heightened global challenges. In the face of rising anti-Semitism and hate speech, the program’s virtual format ensures that these important stories reach audiences far and wide, regardless of geographic or physical barriers. By offering free access to compelling films that explore themes of hope, perseverance, and cultural identity, the series fosters empathy and unity, creating a safe and inclusive space for reflection and dialogue.
“I am honored that Echoes of Loss: Eight Days in Israel has been selected to launch the Miami Jewish Film Festival’s All Access Series, serving as a meaningful tribute to the October 7 terror attacks. The goal of making this film has always been to provide a safe space to grieve for those impacted by October 7th, while also bringing levity and understanding through my shared experience of loss. I hope you will join me in grieving alongside the many Israelis I interviewed throughout the film and honor those we lost one year ago,” said Rob Mor, director of Echoes of Loss.
“Our goal with the MJFF All Access Series is to ensure that everyone, no matter where they are, can connect with the powerful stories that reflect the resilience and unity of our community. At a time when accessibility and inclusivity are more vital than ever, we’re proud to offer this virtual program to bring people together through the universal language of film,” said Igor Shteyrenberg, Executive Director of the Miami Jewish Film Festival.
“Film is a way to transcend cultures and religions and break down barriers. In today’s world, with rampant antisemitism, movies that express human emotion, that make you laugh and/or cry, and that reinforce the concept that we are all human beings, are a way to bring people together—rather than dividing us. Haber Law is proud to present the Miami Jewish Film Festival’s All Access Series which promotes these values,” said David Haber, Managing Partner at Haber Law.
The Miami Jewish Film Festival takes tremendous pride in fostering dialogue and education through the power of cinema and looks forward to welcoming audiences back to this year’s 28th edition on January 9-23, 2025.
