Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon.com and the world’s wealthiest man with an estimated $131 billion in wealth graduated from Miami Palmetto Senior High in 1982!

The school is known for its exceptional academics and highly qualified teachers. A truly comprehensive high school, Palmetto has something for everyone. In fact, Palmetto Senior offers a myriad of academies and magnet programs including, Environmental and Science Masters (Compatible with AP Capstone), Business including entrepreneurship, internships and on-the-job training, Visual and Performing Arts: Art, Band, Dance, Drama, Orchestra, and Photography, Vocational: Industry Certification in Early Childhood, Technical Design/AutoCAD, and Health Science. In addition, the school offers the following magnet programs; AP Capstone – This program is a popular alternative to IB that offers advanced academics, independent research and collaborative teamwork where students can earn a year or more toward college credit, Forensic Investigative Academy – Within AP Capstone where students in collaboration with the FBI explore different science and technology-based modalities for criminal and forensic investigation, and iPrep, a technology-based program and a new approach to 21st century learning. The following world languages (Level 1- AP) are offered to Palmetto Senior students; American Sign Language, French, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese.

Palmetto Pride drives the many community service projects that students participate in to maintain Palmetto’s Bay’s beautiful parks, to assist children at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, to tutor younger students at Palmetto Bay’s elementary and middle feeder pattern schools. Go to Coral Reef Park, Palmetto Bay Park, or the library, and you will spot “P” for Palmetto emblems on jerseys and Panther Paw stickers proudly displayed on car bumpers.
