It was nerve-racking. Every time a storm approached, the tension in the home rose along with the wind. Here it comes again; the water gushing inside the house is almost as bad as the rain outside. Are there enough buckets and pans to catch it all?

The anxiety associated with this type of situation can be debilitating, even to the point that normal activities are affected.

Roofing in Miami is expensive. It is one of the most expensive, and perhaps the least affordable in the country when income is considered. To make matters worse, homeowners insurance prices continue to rise, and the insurance companies are insisting on roof replacement when roofs in Miami reach a certain age, typically 20 years.

For families that are struggling because of some type of hardship, hiring a roofing contractor in Miami to replace their roof is not an option.

There is, however, hope. Raise the Roof is a charitable organization started by the owners of City Roofing, a Miami roofer, that helps families in need of roof replacement in Miami-Dade County but cannot afford it.

Mario Famada, the co-founder of City Roofing, while working in the Miami roofing industry after Hurricane Wilma, heard endless customer complaints—leaks, trash left in yards, workers failing to show up, unfinished or abandoned jobs, and faulty installations. The roofing industry was full of fly-by-night pirates who left disaster in their wake.

Knowing the importance of customer service and workmanship, Mario and his wife, Candy, started a different kind of roofing company. City Roofing was born in 2005, with an old, green pickup truck. Since then, they’ve performed thousands of successful installations and repairs for happy customers.

The Miami roofing company has come a long way since 2005 and has earned over 1,000 5-star reviews across Google, Facebook, Angi, Houzz and other platforms.

Doing the right thing has always been part of City Roofing’s DNA, so giving back to the community that has provided so much to this business, came naturally.

Raise the Roof was started back in 2015. The organization has launched this year’s nomination campaign to give away the seventh free roof to a Miami-Dade County family in need.

The way the process works is that the public at large nominates homeowners in need.

As the organization does each year, Raise the Roof then evaluates each nomination and verifies compliance with qualification requirements. Then, the finalists are chosen, and the public votes for whom they believe should win the free roof.

“Anyone can fall on hard times. We stay in touch with past winners and what is most gratifying is how the Miami homeowners who are fortunate enough to have won the free roof are able to live their lives free of the anxiety and pressure caused by water destroying their homes. They seem happier and freer.” said Candy Caboverde, co-founder of Raise the Roof.

Nominations are closing on December 31st so nominate yourself, a family member, or a friend at raisetheroofmiami.org.
