Before the first whistle blew and before the first goal was scored, Miami was already winning.
The FIFA World Cup is one of the world’s most powerful economic engines. It fills hotels and restaurants, drives tourism, attracts global investment, and generates billions of dollars in economic activity. For Miami, those benefits are real and significant, strengthening businesses, supporting jobs, and showcasing our city on one of the world’s largest stages.
This happened because of leadership, vision, and years of tireless behind-the-scenes work. I want to take a moment to thank the FIFA World Cup 2026 Miami Host Committee for making this moment possible: Co-Chairs Rodney Barreto and Beau Ferrari; and Alina T. Hudak, President & CEO. Their leadership has ensured that Miami didn’t just host the world. We showed the world who we are.
But the greatest host cities understand that the true return on an event of this magnitude extends beyond its economic impact. It is measured by the opportunities created, the partnerships forged, and the legacy left behind for future generations.
That is where Miami stands apart.
For generations, our city has been the gateway to the Americas, a place where cultures converge, innovation thrives, and people from around the world build new lives together. We are uniquely positioned to welcome the world because the world already lives here.

At Miami Dade College, we saw the World Cup as more than a global sporting event. We saw it as a once-in-a-generation educational opportunity.
As one of the nation’s largest and most diverse institutions of higher education, Miami Dade College partnered with FIFA to ensure that the tournament would do more than entertain. It would educate. Our students have worked alongside FIFA professionals through internships and experiential learning opportunities that expose them to global event management, technology, communications, marketing, hospitality, and international collaboration. They are developing the skills, experiences, and professional networks that prepare them to lead in an increasingly interconnected world.
That is what higher education should do. It should connect learning with opportunity and transform global events into lifelong career pathways.
Our partnership extends beyond our classrooms to one of Miami’s most treasured landmarks.
The Freedom Tower has long stood as a symbol of hope, resilience, and freedom. For generations, it welcomed thousands seeking a better future and became an enduring reminder that Miami’s greatest strength has always been its people.
Today, the Freedom Tower has taken on another historic role as the home of FIFA’s first museum in North America, creating a destination where visitors from around the world experience not only the history of the world’s game, but also the story of a city shaped by courage, migration, and possibility.
There could be no more fitting home.
Together, FIFA and the Freedom Tower tell a story that transcends sport. One celebrates the world’s most universal game. The other celebrates humanity’s enduring pursuit of freedom. Both remind us that our shared experiences are stronger than our differences.
That same spirit comes to life through UNIDAD, FIFA’s initiative celebrating culture, creativity, and community. It reflects a belief that has long defined Miami: diversity is not simply something we celebrate. It is the source of our innovation, our resilience, and our success.
