Miami Villagers recently presented a check for $7,867 to representatives of Actors’ Playhouse located in Coral Gables. The funds were used to replace the building’s 15-year-old outdated carpet in the lobby and theater aisles and was designed to complement the theater’s historic terrazzo floors.

Actors’ Playhouse is housed in the historic, 74-year-old Miracle Theater, located on Miracle Mile. The theater, restored in 1995, now is undergoing an overall renovation.

Previously The Villagers contributed to installing neon lights, updating the electrical system for historic movie poster cases, refurbishing wooden panels in the lobby and staircase, and restoring terrazzo floors.

The Villagers Inc. is Miami-Dade County’s oldest historic preservation organization, founded in 1966. The not-for-profit all-volunteer group, originally formed to save the Douglas Entrance, has grown to identify and assist more than 75 endangered sites with 170 grants.
Through educating, advocating, fundraising, restoration, and documentation The Villagers work to preserve the cultural and architectural heritage of local historic sites and neighborhoods.
