MIRAMAR MAYOR MESSAM’S 5th ANNUAL AVIATION EXPO

In what is expected to be another successful staging of the 5th Annual Aviation Expo, Miramar mayor, Wayne M. Messam is inviting the public to a unique experience at the 5th Annual Aviation Expo to be held on December 3rd – 9am – 3pm at the Miramar Amphitheater located at the Miramar Regional Park, 16801 Miramar Parkway, Miramar, FL 33027.  Admission is FREE.

Aviation has been a big part of the Miami Dade and Broward counties and it’s only fitting that an event of this magnitude be held to promote and educate the public on the exciting field of aviation that includes, airplanes, space crafts, helicopters, rockets, drones, parts, and accessories to the technology that drives the aviation industry to make significant advancement in air and space travel.

 Our main goal is to constantly expose young adults and children to the field of aviation.  We bring together experts in the industry that demonstrate through simulators and hands-on experience the equipment, tools and technology used in the industry.  There is vast opportunity in aviation and it’s a field that is growing rapidly with opportunities for career choice or advancement,” stated Mayor Messam.

 The public can expect to have an interactive experience where Drones, Aircraft Flight SIMs, Static Displays, and Helicopters, will be on display. American Airlines will lead with interactive student engagement with their air and ground crewmembers. On Friday, Captain Barrington Irving, National Geographic’s Emerging Pilot and Guinness World Record Holder as the youngest person to fly solo around the world in a plane he built himself, will share his passion to inspire youth to identify and pursue their dreams through aviation education programs designed to build math, science, reading, and problem-solving skills. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue will conduct an Air Rescue demonstration on both days and students and families will meet the helicopter pilot and medical crew to learn about their career. On Saturday, December 3rd, the doors will open to the community for an expansive Aviation and STEM Career Fair, STEM Magnet program recruitment, Flight simulations, Food Truck Rally and a Family Friendly Fun and entertainment for all ages. Broward County Schools will host their middle and high school’s robotics competition again this year at the expo showcasing STEM in action.  Employers will accept resumes. Anticipate over 4,000 weekend attendees.

 The students can expect an exciting Field Trip on Friday, December 2nd, where doors open at 9am for a unique interactive experience for private and homeschoolers as well as students throughout Broward and Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

 During the Aviation Expo, there will be opportunities to meet and be inspired by the  – Flying Classroom, Air Force Pilot Recruiting Services, United States Coast Guard Tactical Operations Team, Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP), Latino Pilot Association (LPA), Wayman Aviation Academy, Global STEM Academy, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Florida Memorial University Dept. of Aviation and Safety, Broward College Dual Enrollment Aviation Magnet Program, Civil Air Patrol (CAP), Airport Operation Representatives – Broward County Aviation Department, City of Miramar Police and Fire Departments and other members of the aviation industry.

 Mayor Wayne Messam’s 5th annual Miramar Aviation Expo is presented in partnership with Miramar Park of Commerce, American Airlines, Broward County Public Schools, Richard P. Hall Eagles Foundation, Inc., Flying Classroom and Broward County Aviation Department and Fort Lauderdale International Airport, to name a few. “Miramar is the premier city to attract the aviation sector and we are already home to many Aviation companies.  We are actively seeking companies to relocate to Miramar because we believe we have the best facilities and the right location for companies to enjoy settling here.  In addition, we believe fundamentally to expose the future generation of aviators and aviation professionals of the many STEM career opportunities the region has to offer, and I encourage all schools and the community to participate,” said Mayor Wayne Messam.
