Paulette Murphy has always had a way of bringing a community together and has made a huge impact on many people during her 28+ year career. She has climbed the ladder and served many roles, from being a recreation specialist early in her career to her current position as the Director for City of Miami Gardens Parks & Recreation, where she has served for the past two (2) years.
“With every step up she left a trail of staff, kids and parents with broken hearts, but she continued to build teams, create dreams, produce innovative programming and lure anyone interested into the profession,” said Antoinette King, the Assistant Community Center Manager at City of Miami Gardens Parks & Recreation. “I was one of those teary-eyed kids and as soon as I was old enough to get a job, parks and recreation is where I wanted to work. Everyone respects [Paulette] because she is tough and has high expectations; has her own way of doing things and challenges everyone to be better. She always leaves you with a life lesson and makes you see the big picture.”
Paulette is now Antoinette’s Director, and due to her mentorship and the seeds she planted, many other agencies in South Florida have managers, supervisors, coordinators, superintendents, teachers, counselors and principals who began their careers working with Paulette. According to her, “parks and recreation is more than just rolling out a ball, and if you do not take your profession seriously, no one will.”
