Nicklaus Children’s Hospital physician spreads messages of hope, positivity
Dr. Santiago Medina uses art as a way to help manage stress.

For much of the year, the South Florida community has been faced with unexpected challenges. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, families have found themselves struggling to cope with a secondary pandemic of associated stress and potential mental health issues.

Dr. Santiago Medina, a radiologist with a passion for art, has sought to support Nicklaus Children’s Hospital patients and employees in coping with pandemic-borne stress through his “Show Us Your HeART” initiative.

Dr. Medina often uses art as a way to help manage stress. The “Show Us Your HeART” project encouraged Nicklaus Children’s patients, families and staff to turn to art as a form of therapy by creating imagery that would spread messages of hope and positivity. The submitted artwork has been gathered in a collage now on display at the hospital for all to see and enjoy.

“We would like to thank Dr. Medina for establishing this inspirational program,” said Perry Ann Reed, president of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and senior vice president and chief operating officer of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. “Show Us Your HeART helps us spread joy to patient families, while supporting and inspiring them as we navigate the pandemic together.”
