Nicklaus Children’s Hospital teen patients experience Prom Night

More than 100 chronically ill patients, their parents and dates celebrated the third annual Carlin Family Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Prom on May 21, thanks to a generous $300,000 donation from the Carlin Family to Miami Children’s Health Foundation.

The Carlin family’s donation has been underwriting the cost of the prom since 2014 and will continue through 2018. Local sponsors and vendors also took on the mission of giving these young patients a night they would otherwise not be able to experience due to their illness.

Current and recently hospitalized teen patients danced the night away at the “Once Upon a Time” theme party, complete with a red carpet to show off their stylish looks. Parents also enjoyed a night off at a special reception where they were able to watch the festivities via live stream.

“Seeing the happiness and excitement on each of the patient’s faces was priceless. Knowing that they were able to forget, even for a moment, about their illnesses and treatments was truly magical,” Adam Carlin said.

“We are so happy to play a role in creating memories for the patients at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and to celebrate with them an unforgettable night,” he added.

“Our foundation is very thankful to have the generosity of the Carlin Family, who have seen how special this event is for our chronically ill patients. Their financial commitment to the Carlin Prom will allow our patients to continue to enjoy this wonderful rite of passage for the next two years,” said Lucy Morillo, president and CEO, Miami Children’s Health Foundation.

Miami Children’s Health Foundation also received overwhelming support from local businesses who donated their time and services. Volunteers, including nurses, doctors, social workers and Child Life Specialists helped to make this prom a success.

Other sponsors included 5801 Productions, Zoo Miami, Ali’s Sweet Treats, Barbara Lawless Photography, Carolina Bustle Inc., Chef David Schwadron Catering, Cherry Blow Dry Bar, DJ Vertigo, Game Time, Kendall Ice Arena, Logistical Outsourcing Inc., Macy’s, Men’s Designer Outlet, Miami Marlins, Passion Growers, Snap Away Photo Booths and WOW Factor Marketing Group.
