NWS open house to offer full day of free fun, music and wellness

NWS open house to offer full day of free fun, music and wellnessThe New World Symphony, America’s Orchestral Academy (NWS) and Baptist Health have partnered to present NWS Open House, a full day of free and fun music and wellness activities on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the New World Center and SoundScape Park, 500 17 St.).

The festivities begin in SoundScape Park at 9 a.m. with a musical fanfare and a Beach Plogging session — a full body workout while improving the environment during a cardio beach cleanup led by Mariana from Better Me Movement.

Other outdoor activities continue throughout the day, including Zumba, youth fitness, self-defense, yoga and DOGA (yoga for you and your dog) classes, as well as mural creation, an art installation, vendor stations, a hydration station and chill zone.

Activities inside the New World Center, which will open from 1-4:30 p.m., will feature behind-the-scenes tours of the Frank Gehry-designed building; tours of the state-of-the-art video booth hosted by Clyde Scott, NWS’ director of video production and resident projection designer; short performances by New World Symphony Fellows; an instrument petting zoo; a learn-how-to-conduct “class;” a photo booth powered by The New Tropic; a drum circle; partner info tables by ZooMiami and Miami-Dade County Public Libraries; scavenger hunt; face painting; children’s activities by Miami Children’s Museum, and health screenings and other activities by Baptist Health.

Additional partners that will participate in the NWS Open House, presented by Baptist Health, include Nike, greenmonkey, Capital One, Zico water, Anatomy gym, Hungry Harvest, the Miami Beach Police Department, among others.

The day will culminate in a pre-season full-orchestra concert by the New World Symphony. This concert will be the first event in which the 42 new Fellows of the New World Symphony — an unprecedented number of first-year Fellows — will join the 46 returning Fellows, performing together as the full complement of 2018-19 NWS Fellows. Tickets for the concert are free, but reservations are required.

Most activities will happen rain-or-shine; check the website for a full listing of the events.

To attend the NWS Open House, advance RSVPs are suggested. People wishing to attend may RSVP online at www.NWS.edu/OpenHouse, or join the conversation online at #NWSOpenHouse or #BeachWeLove.
