Ocaquatics and village again join for annual school supplies drive

Ocaquatics Swim School and the Village of Palmetto Bay once again are conducting their yearly school supply drive. The goal is to donate school supplies to area schools that are in need of materials for their students.

“We will collect supplies from July 10 to Aug. 6,” said Miren Oca, owner of Ocaquatics Swim School. “Please drop them in the bin of your favorite team member and the one who collects the most supplies will receive special recognition. You can drop off supplies at any of our five locations. Thank you for your donations and for making a difference.”

The five Ocaquatics locations are: Eureka, 11101 SW 176 St.; Kendall, 13408 SW 131 St.; Coral Gables, 59 Merrick Way; Tropical, 4950 SW 75 Ave., and Northwest, 10502 NW 134 St.

Miren Oca, the daughter of immigrant parents, founded Ocaquatics Swim School to be an agent of change in her community and to work to help prevent drownings in an area that has so many waterways, lakes and pools. The company is a member of 1% For The Planet and Conscious Capitalism, and earned B Corp Certification in 2022.

Ocaquatics and the Village of Palmetto Bay have teamed up for the school supplies drive for the past several years, with the village’s policing unit helping to distribute supplies and backpacks to students who need extra resources.

“We have partnered with Ocaquatics for the last eight years to provide supplies and backpacks to our village schools,” said Mayor Karyn Cunningham, “It’s programs and partnerships like these with local businesses that make our community so special.”
