Ocaquatics Swim School was recognized with multiple awards by the United States Swim School Association (USSSA) at its Oct. 2-4 National Conference, with owner Miren Oca the most recent inductee into the USSSA Hall of Fame.

The prestigious Hall of Fame award honors individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the teaching and learning of swimming. The award is reserved for those who have demonstrated 20 years or more of commitment, have developed expertise that is fame worthy and who is recognized and appreciated within the swimming community and public at large.

Oca, owner and operator of Ocaquatics school locations near Palmetto Bay, in Coral Gables, Kendall and two other areas, was thrilled with the award.

“I am truly honored to be inducted into the USSSA Hall of Fame,” Oca said. “Swimming and water safety have always been my passions, and I am profoundly grateful for this recognition from USSSA, an organization that shares our commitment to promoting water safety and the lifelong benefits and joys of swimming.”

In addition to Oca’s Hall of Fame induction, Ocaquatics’ Learning and Development manager, Katiuska Yanez, was recognized as USSSA National Educator of the Year. The award looks to recognize an exceptional educator in the learn-to-swim industry. It highlights educators who make significant contributions to their students and create a student-centered learning environment. Recipients must have at least five years of in-water experience as an educator working at a USSSA member swim school.

“I am thrilled to be recognized for something that I truly love to do every day,” Yanez said.

“I am grateful to be part of an organization that teaches lifesaving skills and impacts the community positively.”

Oca has served in many roles within the USSSA over her years as a lifetime member, including board of directors, president, committee member, and committee chair. She started with swimming instruction in client homes and worked her way up, moving into her first location at a hotel in 1994. After operating for years in outdoor locations she moved to her own indoor facility in 2009 and now has five swim school locations.

U.S. Swim School Association began in 1988 and has become the largest and preeminent swim school association in the country with more than 400 members providing swim and water safety instruction to over 500,000 students each year.
