On Your Feet! dazzles audience opening night at Miracle Theatre

The Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre, 280 Miracle Mile, on Friday, Feb. 11, celebrated an exhilarating opening night for the regional premiere of On Your Feet!, based on the inspiring story of Miami’s own Gloria and Emilio Estefan, with a VIP-filled red carpet making it a magical evening for South Florida’s theater community.

The return of this show to its hometown was overseen by David Arisco as artistic director and Andy Señor Jr. as director, Natalie Caruncho as associate director and choreographer, and longtime member of the Miami Sound Machine Clay Ostwald musical directing, all three of whom were part of the original Broadway production.

They, along with the outstanding cast led by Claudia Yanez as Gloria and Cuban-American actor Jason Canela as Emilio, made the show’s homecoming one of the theater’s greatest performances.

In attendance on opening night were Miami royalty and the inspiration behind the show, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, who showed their support of the show’s return to the Magic City. At the start of the show, Coral Gables Mayor Vince Lago presented the Estefans with a key to the city.

Also in attendance were Gloria and Emilio’s daughter Emily Estefan, Emilio’s niece Lili Estefan, Ana Villafañe who originated the role of Gloria in the Broadway production, Isabela Merced recognized for her role as Dora in Dora in the Lost City of Gold, NBC6’s Jackie Nespral, and singer Jencarlos Canela in support of his brother Jason Canela.

Some of Miami’s community leaders were present to show their support of the arts including former superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools Alberto Carvalho who received a standing ovation from the audience, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, and Commissioner Rene Garcia.

The show will be in Miami through Mar. 6. Showtimes are Wednesday-Saturday at 8 p.m., with matinees on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.. Ticket prices range from $55 to $85.
