The Palmer Trinity School (PTS) Model United Nations organization recently conducted its inaugural Miami Model UN (MIAMUN) Conference. More than 40 upper school delegates and middle school volunteers participated.

The conference was divided into two General Assembly committees: the First Committee on Disarmament and International Security (GA-1) that discussed cyber warfare and how to confront the growing international concern, and the Third Committee on Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Issues (GA-3) that debated ways to alleviate the ongoing migration crisis in Europe. The delegates engaged in debate and compromise to formulate resolutions to these global issues.

“Our Palmer Trinity School delegates did a fantastic job at MIAMUN. They demonstrated a strong sense of empathy by representing nations throughout the world,” said Derek Smith, History faculty member. “Their efforts to prepare and debate the issues at hand were commendable and their focus on compromise and developing resolutions would make all diplomats proud.”

Opening ceremonies and conference where conducted on campus at the school’s Main Dining Room and in the PTS Library.
