Argentine classical music pianist Horacio Lavandera will perform for the first time in the Miami area as part of a solo piano tour of the United States that also will take him to play at the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York.
The virtuoso South American instrumentalist will perform on Tuesday, May 7, 8 pm, in the Newman Recital Hall, at the University of Miami in Coral Gables.
Tickets for the concert are on sale at www.passline.com/eventos/horacio-lavandera-miami.
Both in Miami and at Carnegie Hall ax well as in Minnesota, a state where he will have two performances, Lavandera will perform an eclectic repertoire with works by Mozart, Beethoven and Mendelssohn, as well as the American George Gershwin and the contemporary Argentine composer and master bandoneonist Dino Saluzzi.
“I am very excited about this series of performances because, as you will see, I am going to interpret great authors of German classical music, but also two paradigmatic composers from Argentina and the United States such as Saluzzi and Gershwin,” said the young maestro. who also is a producer and director.
“My idea is to connect Argentina and the United States through my piano, an instrument whose presence in the cultural development of both societies was fundamental,” he added.
Lavandera’s intention to combine the exotic Argentine works of the musician and composer Dino Saluzzi with those of the great masters of classical music is justified in the musical rhetoric found in the singularity of these styles.
“Saluzzi’s piano music represents an idealized romanticism, which in a way is related to German romanticism,” the Argentine pianist said.
Horacio Lavandera is one of the most acclaimed young classical pianists of the past 20 years. He was born in Buenos Aires in 1984, and is the son of the renowned percussionist José María Lavandera. Considered a prodigy for his virtuosity and precocious interpretations, Horacio began his professional path at age 16, when he won the III Umberto Micheli International Piano Competition, at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan (Italy).
He also received a special and unique award from the Orquesta Filarmónica della Scala.
Lavandera has 11 albums to his credit. It has been supported by the Sony Music record label. He obtained several Gardel Awards from Argentina. He has recorded pieces by Astor Piazzolla. It has been prepared in countries like Italy and Spain.
He also has been invited to perform as a soloist with prestigious orchestras and conductors as well as to offer recitals throughout America, Europe and Asia. He has been under the direction of outstanding teachers, such as Charles Dutoit, Antonio Pappano, Benjamin Zander, Michael Zilm, Terje Mikkelsen, Arthur Fagen, Martin Sieghart, Christopher Wilkins, David Murphy, George Pehlivanian, Franz-Paul Decker, Enrique Arturo Diemecke, among others.
Lavandera is considered a popular phenomenon in his country because he was the protagonist of two national television cultural programs and the film Zonda (2014), by renowned Spanish filmmaker Carlos Saura.
