In a decisive move to bolster school safety, the Plantation City Council has enlisted RedSpeed USA to implement automated speed enforcement in 15 school zones across the city. RedSpeed USA became the first vendor in the state of Florida to have an RFP issued contract approved and awarded by a city council. This initiative aims to protect students by deterring drivers from speeding in school zones, thereby ensuring safer routes to and from school.

“RedSpeed is extremely proud to be a part of the City of Plantation’s efforts to make 15 school zones safer for children through automated speed enforcement,” said Greg Parks, Vice President with RedSpeed USA. “Every child deserves to be safe on their way to and from school, and parents deserve peace of mind. That’s why RedSpeed is partnering with city governments across Florida to implement proven safety measures that protect students and enhance the safety of our communities.”

Studies have consistently shown that automated speed enforcement devices significantly reduce speeding. Most importantly, this initiative focuses on protecting children rather than penalizing drivers. The devices will automatically generate a ticket for drivers found exceeding the speed limit by at least 10 miles per hour during school days. These citations will not result in points being added to a driver’s license but serve as a deterrent to encourage responsible driving behavior in school zones.

The recent approval by the Plantation City Council follows the successful implementation of similar programs across Florida, including Lawtey, which went live under the state’s recently passed HB657 legislation. RedSpeed USA has successfully passed legislation and won procurements in eight local jurisdictions, including Manatee and Miami-Dade counties and the cities of Pinecrest, South Miami, Miami Gardens, Lawtey, High Springs, and Palm Bay.

RedSpeed USA is the first provider approved by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) for school zone speed enforcement e-citations and has become the leading provider of turnkey, automated photo enforcement programs in the country. The company has already issued the first Uniform Traffic Violation (UTC) under the new law in Florida, marking a significant milestone in traffic safety enforcement.
