Ponce de Leon Middle School principal honored by Miami-Dade School Board

The Miami-Dade County Public School Board recently recognized Hebert M. Penton, Ponce de Leon Middle School principal, for receiving the Miami-Dade Council of PTAs/PTSAs 2020-21 Paul Bell Principal of the Year Award. The recognition was proposed by board member Mari Tere Rojas.

The Miami-Dade County Council of PTAs/PTSAs is composed of 50,000 plus PTA/PTSA members within 350 local units, serving more than 350,000 students and their families. The organization is an advocate for children and addresses government agencies and organizations that make decisions affecting them.

Every year, the Miami-Dade Council of PTAs/PTSAs awards the Paul Bell Principal of the Year Award to an outstanding principal who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and dedication to the vision, mission, and the values of the PTA/PTSA at his or her school, and exhibits outstanding commitment to the parents, students, and staff.

Penton began his career as a social studies teacher and has been the principal at Ponce de Leon Middle School since 2017. Under his leadership, the school has earned several recognitions, including the designation as a STEM Certified School and one of the top 10 magnet programs in the nation.
