Palmer Trinity School (PTS) has announced it is the high school winner of the University of Florida’s Florida Semiconductor Institute’s (FSI) “Chip in Florida: K–12 Semiconductor Education Challenge,” a new initiative aimed at igniting student interest in microelectronics and future tech careers.

More than 170 educators and 12,000 students across 29 Florida school districts in grades K-12 participated in the challenge. Led by physics teacher Susy Chu, PTS’s high school students submitted 25 future-forward solutions from NerveBridge, a chip-powered device that simulates nerve signals to AI-powered drought irrigation systems and MediPath, a smart health monitor. The school stood out for its innovative approach, interdisciplinary thinking, and real-world application of semiconductor technology.

“Being recognized as the high school winner affirms our belief that STEM education is a powerful catalyst for creativity, leadership, and ethical innovation,” said Patrick Roberts, head of school. “Congratulations to our students and Ms. Chu who embraced this challenge, not just as a competition, but as an opportunity to explore how technology can serve humanity.”

Throughout the challenge, PTS students participated in virtual lab tours, engaged with industry experts, and collaborated across disciplines to bring their ideas to life. They were awarded classroom prizes and robotics kits.
