To help the South Florida homeless population during the holidays, longtime running friends Ibrahim Al-Rashid, chair of Limestone Asset Management, and Cobi Morales, co-founder of Miami running and walking shoe store iRun, offered “Holiday Steps for the Homeless.”

Al-Rashid and Morales teamed up to personally donate 150–200 pairs of running shoes to those in need in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

On Dec. 8, Al-Rashid and Morales visited various homeless populations in Miami and Fort Lauderdale urban core areas to deliver the shoes, while practicing safe social distancing.

They donated running shoes from brands such as Asics, New Balance, Hoka, On, and Brooks, paired with care packages containing various personal hygiene essentials.

The year 2020 marks the third year that the two friends made a personal donation of running shoes to the homeless. In 2018, Al-Rashid and Morales, who met while running at unique locations all over the world, decided to put their passion for running to work to give back.

“Running has given me so much joy throughout my life. Through this donation, I hope to help spread some of this joy to the needy,” Al-Rashid said. “With each new pair, they can take a step forward toward a brighter future.

“The year 2020 has brought many unforeseen challenges. It is more important than ever to look out for the most vulnerable among us,” he continued. “I have grown to love and appreciate the homeless population over the last few years based on my friendly interactions with them, and I hope that our outreach reminds them that they are not forgotten. Cobi and I are humbled to continue this work during the holiday season.”

Morales added, “It’s an honor to join my friend Ibrahim to donate shoes to the homeless for the holidays for the third year ‘running.’ We hope to make their season happier by providing them with these high-quality shoes.”
