The Board of Directors of the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) approved this year’s toll refund for eligible customers of the Frequent Drivers Rewards Program to be automatically credited to their respective SunPass accounts. In previous years, those participating in the Rewards Program, which has been in place since 2015, received a check in the mail by the end of the year.
Providing an automatic credit will reduce the cost of mailing checks and will avoid returned checks if the customer has failed to update their address on their MDX Rewards accounts. The MDX Board of Directors also considered a discussion item presented by MDX Chairman Jose “Pepe” Diaz proposing a temporary program whereby MDX customers will receive an automatic toll refund on a monthly basis if they have 40 or more toll transactions a month on the five MDX expressways. This program would not require registration and will translate into a 20% credit of the total amount of tolls paid that month.
“By making the toll refund an automatic credit to the SunPass accounts and eliminating the need to register, we can better serve our customers and make it more convenient,” said Executive Director Darlene M. Fernandez, P.E. “It is always important to find ways to put our customers first,” added Fernandez.
After discussion and evaluation of all financial considerations, the MDX Board moved to approve the temporary program from October 1, 2022 to February 28, 2023.
“This program will provide temporary relief to support our residents during these difficult economic times,” stated Chairman Diaz.
This temporary discount program will apply to two axle passenger vehicles traveling the MDX system. Customers need to have a Sunpass account in good standing in order to participate. To check for toll refund credits, customers should log in to their SunPass accounts at www.sunpass.com . Miami-Dade County residents will now enjoy a monthly automatic toll credit whether riding on an MDX expressway or on one of the State of Florida’s expressways through the SunPass Savings toll discount program unveiled by Governor Ron DeSantis.
