Young Patronesses of the Opera (YPO) hosted an opera preview for Rigoletto on Mar. 6 at the historic Coral Gables Woman’s Club in Coral Gables.

Some 87 guests enjoyed an educational and entertaining presentation by Dr Eugene Greco, retired professor at Miami Dade College for 36 years, associate professor (adjunct) at the University of Miami for 40 years, and the current choir director and organist at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

Local acclaimed artists Laura Leon (soprano) and Gerardo Ortega (tenor) shared their amazing talent with several arias from Rigoletto. Both gave passionate and emotional performances, taking advantage of the club building’s acoustics. YPO’s own talented Anna Faveeta accompanied on the keyboard.

Colorfully adorned mask centerpieces brought the room to life with its stone walls and cathedral ceiling. Multiple Venetian jester masks represented the main character, Rigoletto.

There was an open bar and Italian cuisine catered by Chef Jorge of The Stuffed Cuban.
Many thanks to Eva Cooperman, Anna Fateeva, Maribel Maldonado, Lee Lennons and Maria Sanchez de Varona, along with volunteer helpers Georgia McLean, Adriana Muinos and Francesca D’agata.

Violeta Cepeda and Barbara Waters, co-chairs.
