Fall is here with better weather and lots of fundraisers, from cultural arts to sporting events and more.
On Friday, Nov. 22, internationally acclaimed pianist Francesco Attesti will perform a concert fundraiser at Steinway Piano Gallery, 4104 Ponce de Leon Blvd. in Coral Gables.
Tickets for the affair are $100 per person and include a reception with an open bar and hors d’oeuvres at 6 p.m. followed by the concert at 7:30 p.m. This is a concert you will not want to miss.
Proceeds will benefit RCCG’s international projects. Coordinating the affair in the absence of International Committee chair Carol Brock is RCCG past president Yolanda Woodbridge.
To reserve tickets for the concert, send email to rotarycoralgables@gmail.com.
Most recently, the Rotary Club of Coral Gables held another fundraiser in connection with Veterans Day to benefit the club’s monthly bingo events for the veterans at the VA Hospital. The affair featured the movie Searching for Home: Coming Back from War.
Before the viewing, event coordinator RCCG secretary and past president Sally Baumgartner orchestrated a reception with music, concession treats, and an open bar.
Proceeds from that event were directed to the club’s foundation that supports numerous non-profit programs.
The club’s weekly Thursday lunches at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables are always a draw with interesting high profile guest speakers this club offers to serve our community.
The Woman Voice Network recently elected its board adding some new faces. Currently serving on the Woman Voice Network board of directors are Dunia Cuneo, Ernesto Alvarez, Fabiola Singh, Jorge Casero, Tracy Forgette, Nathalie Kanzki, Henry Zaldivar, Gloria Burns, and board chair Iris Garcia. Garcia was a recent guest on Gloria’s Gab LIVE show to talk about WVN as its founder and unpaid executive director for years. The nonprofit’s mission is to economically empower women who are victims of domestic violence and human trafficking so that they can live a productive life without fear.
The board met at Sergio’s Restaurant in Doral during October and plans to hold the next meeting at Vivo, the new expansive restaurant/bar/game spot at Dolphin Mall, for lunch on Nov. 23.
Steven Bradley, who emcees Coral Gables Woman’s Clubs’ Gringo Bingo, has taken over the job of sales manager at this beautiful location and is always great working with organizations for fun events and meetings.
Speaking of Gringo Bingo, the next event will return to Grand Living, 363 Granello in the Gables, on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 7-9 p.m. Tickets are $35 and include lite bites, one drink, 13 bingo cards, music by DJ Germain, emcee Steven Bradley, great prizes and tons of fun. Shout out to Grand Living for hosting this event for a second month with proceeds being shared with Alzheimer’s Association.
Paws4you held its annual Howl-O-Ween on Oct. 19 at Palmetto Bay Park with its first ever nighttime event. Join me on Dec. 10 for my video podcast, Gloria’s Gab LIVE, 10 a.m., at cnews.net, to learn more about the work of this amazing dog rescue non-profit from its founder and CEO, Carol Caridad.
By the way, Give Miami Day is coming Nov. 21, but you actually can start donating on Nov. 17 with early Give Miami Day. Be sure to support your favorite charities by making donations that day.
Coral Gables Community Foundation Gala on Oct. 18 with a New York theme was another sellout at the Loew bringing in record donations for its numerous programs and initiatives.
That same weekend, on Oct. 19, A Safe Haven for Newborns’ fabulous gala held at the Intercontinental Miami raised $95,000. This year’s event offered something special with the reunion of the first baby saved, Gloria Hope and her parents, Michael and Lori Lewis, with firefighters who received her 21 years ago. Gloria currently is attending college and took the stage to sing the Star Spangled Banner. CBS 4’s Laura Pastrana was there again doing a beautiful job as emcee for the evening.
During the event, CEO and founder Nick Silverio announced the number of babies they have saved from possible abandonment is up to 412. Look for more on the organization’s plans for a new office building as their outreach expands into other states.
Finally, there are several dates to save for December including The Villagers’ Home Tour on Saturday, Dec. 7, and the 76th Junior Orange Bowl Holiday Parade on Sunday, Dec. 15.
Tickets for the grandstands already are on sale at the Jr. Orange Bowl’s Eventbrite page.
Until next time, share your time and talents, count your blessings, and make a difference.
