Running for election to City Commission Group II : Alexander Luis Haq
Alexander Luis Haq

Alexander Luis Haq is running for election to the Group II seat of the Coral Gables City Commission in the Apr. 13 municipal election.

Haq is a lifelong resident of Coral Gables. He attended Saint Theresa School as a boy, went swimming with friends at the Venetian Pool, enjoyed visiting Miracle Mile, and went to the University of Miami where he received his undergraduate degrees in history and theater.

“If elected, I would greatly invest in the raw talent within Coral Gables. To do that would require a greater investment in updating the Coral Gables website which in its current iteration is not user friendly and is more of a deterrent for bringing in those that want to work and live in Coral Gables. Also, Miracle Mile is suffering and no amount of development or changing of the zoning codes is going to bring any lasting benefit. If elected I would see to it that the city really addresses the climate crisis plaguing our planet and seek to make Coral Gables more carbon neutral.

“Whereas my opponents have ties to these special interests, I do not; my campaign is one for the community and has their best interests. There is a lot of work to be done and that will require the city commission to take the concerns of the community seriously. I pledge to serve the community regardless of whether I win. I will continue to involve myself with the community and fight for Coral Gables; especially from those that seek to benefit from their special interests.”

His campaign website is at https://haq2021.org/about/.
