Claudia Miro is running for election to the Group II seat of the Coral Gables City Commission in the Apr. 13 municipal election.
She is self-employed in Coral Gables providing translation of campaign marketing materials. She went to Miami Coral Park Senior High, and received a Master of Public Administration at Barry University.
“During the first 100 days in office, I would hit the ground running using the knowledge I have gained in the 20-plus years working in the public sector at the city, county and state government level, coupled with my master’s degree in public administration. I would immediately assess any budgetary shortfalls brought on by COVID-19 and work to avoid cutbacks in city services, avoid dipping into the city’s budget reserves using my knowledge across various government agencies to seek and identify any relief funds available to our City Beautiful.
“I would work towards setting the tone for the next four years as being people’s commissioner. I would focus on bringing transparency to the issues that are top concerns for our residents such as limiting the height of buildings on Miracle Mile, work with the Business Improvement District (BID) to help business overcome pandemic economic pressures, work to find solutions to revitalize Miracle Mile, fight petty crimes in the north gables, champion pedestrian safety to reduce high-speed cut-through traffic, and ensure that our parks and green spaces remain beautiful and safe.
“To achieve transparency and increase resident awareness of proposed construction projects, I would propose the implementation of alternate commission meeting schedules to accommodate residents who work during the day or have other daytime commitments to allow them to participate in the process. I would work towards being accessible to residents by keeping set office hours where they can bring their concerns to my attention in person or via Zoom. I would initiate programs for our seniors, including providing assistance with accessing online programs such as signing-up to receive a COVID vaccine and establish a homebound meal program.
“Lastly, I would insist on bringing back civility and decorum to our meetings while remaining humble, accessible and approachable to all our residents.”
