Mayra Joli is running for election to the Group II seat of the Coral Gables City Commission in the Apr. 13 municipal election.
Joli is an immigration attorney and founder of the Joli Law Firm PLLC, a Brickell-based boutique firm, exclusively practicing immigration law. Joli ran for Congress in 2018.
“If elected, what would I do in the first 100 days after taking office?
● Propose a one full day workshop/training to establish an official, published, job description for the commission members and city manager, focusing with clarity on respect for the input of the concerned citizens of Coral Gables.
● Propose the establishment of a Citizens Ethics Advisory Board to recommend better ways to avoid corruption of elected and appointed officials in city government, including a review of current lobbyist registration requirements and disclosures.
● Re-emphasize the commitment of the City of Coral Gables to comply with Florida’s open meeting “Government in the Sunshine” laws, including better Web-based access to city government activities and communications.
“My top priorities as a city commission member would be:
• A moratorium on pet projects, pending a conflict of interest review of all pending expenditures over $25,000.
• Implementation of a suggestion/feedback page on the city website to determine the pulse of the community with a rating system (survey) to evaluate commissioner performance every four months.
• Establishment of an outreach office to actively seek and develop involvement and discussion with Coral Gables community associations so their concerns may be more appropriately and timely addressed.”
Joli created Fashion Night on Brickell, an annual fundraising event that generates charitable contributions that in the initial years provided support for legal services for those faced with critical legal problems and who cannot afford to hire a lawyer.
