Sawgrass Mills, South Florida’s premier outlet shopping destination, is launching the implementation of electronic license plate readers at mall entrances, mall and City of Sunrise Police Department officials announced today.

In real time, the system uses Vehicle Fingerprint Technology to compare unique vehicle characteristics with a database that has been associated with stolen vehicles, outstanding warrants, Amber Alerts or other investigations. Should the system find a match, it will immediately notify police to respond. The system is active 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide comprehensive coverage.

“At Sawgrass Mills, providing a safe and secure environment for our shoppers, employees and community members is our top priority,” said David Gott, General Manager of Sawgrass Mills. “The addition of license plate readers is another tool to enhance the robust safety measures already in place at Sawgrass Mills. We are grateful for our longstanding collaboration with the City of Sunrise Police Department and will continue to work with them and others to help ensure a safe and enjoyable shopping experience and work environment at Sawgrass Mills.”

The system is provided by Flock Safety, an industry leader in automated license plate recognition technology.

“This technology has helped law enforcement agencies across the nation apprehend suspected criminals, recover stolen property and ultimately reduce crime,” said Daniel J. Ransone, Chief of the Sunrise Police Department. “We have a great working relationship with the team at Sawgrass Mills, and this represents another step to help us better serve and further improve the quality of life for citizens of Sunrise and anyone who visits our community.”
