On Friday, April 26, 2024, School Board Member Mary Blanco, District 7, accompanied by School Board Chair Mari Tere Rojas and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jose L. Dotres, joined Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez at Norma Butler Bossard Elementary School to promote the third annual Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez’s Space Art Contest.
During her visit, Lieutenant Governor Nuñez expressed her excitement about this creative initiative that promotes Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) education among students and enthusiastically encouraged young artists at Norma Butler Bossard, and throughout the entire State of Florida, to create an art piece inspired by this year’s theme: Suit Up! Florida’s Space Suit of the Future.
“It is an honor for all of us to have Lieutenant Governor Nuñez visiting our school to promote this exciting opportunity for our students,” said Board Member Blanco. “This art contest is a great way to encourage our students to explore the wonders of space using their artistic talents. I wholeheartedly encourage all District 7 elementary students to get inspired and design the space suit of the future!”
Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez’s Space Art Contest is open to all K–5 grade students in Florida. In the first two years, the contest received more than 4,000 entries from young artists throughout the state. The contest finalists will receive two tickets to the Kennedy Space Center Visitors Complex. Additionally, two grand prize winners will have their artwork launched into space on an upcoming mission.
All entries must be received by 5 PM on Friday, May 24, 2024. For more information about the contest please visit www.FloridaSpaceArt.com.
