On Monday, March 18, 2024, School Board Member Roberto J. Alonso, District 4, hosted a Family Night event at Bob Graham K-8 Education Center with the goal of bringing students, parents, and community together to enjoy valuable family time and connect with important school resources. The night featured fun family activities designed to promote healthy parent-child relationships and stronger families.
Everyone had a great time and enjoyed tasty refreshments, including pizza! School Board Member Alonso thanked all families in attendance and extended a special thanks to Bob Graham K-8 Education Center principal and staff for their support in making this event possible.
“This family night is part of my commitment to District 4 families and students. The event was an amazing success! Everyone learned more about the importance of parent-child bond and the importance of parental involvement in children’s education,” said Board Member Alonso. “I would like to thank everyone for their support of this event. This is one of many family nights that I will be hosting in collaboration with District 4 schools. I look forward to continuing to do these events in our community. Together we can build stronger families for a stronger community.”
Parental involvement is crucial for students’ success. Statistics indicate that 95% of students with actively involved parents have better mental and physical well-being, providing them with a good foundation to excel academically. Students with involved parents experience reduced stress and anxiety levels, improved concentration in the classroom, and improved cognitive abilities. Moreover, 62.1% of students agree that parental involvement boosts self-esteem, which is key for academic achievement. Parental involvement empowers students to develop a positive self-image and believe in their abilities, reduces their fear of failure, encourages them to take risks, and develops perseverance.
