With Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke at the helm, NPS and FWC officials assess hurricane recovery efforts.

Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke visited Biscayne National Park on Sunday, Oct. 8, as part of his South Florida tour to see the impacts of Hurricane Irma.

He toured the park by boat, surveyed and helped repair damage from Hurricane Irma, and met with park staff and visitors.

“We appreciate Secretary Zinke’s hands-on involvement and leadership in Hurricane Irma recovery efforts and his deep concern for the park, employees and their families, and the communities of South Florida,” said park superintendent Margaret L. Goodro.

Secretary Zinke met with maintenance staff where he drove a tractor and helped dump gravel to restore a popular picnic area. He commented on the park’s hard work and dedication to re-open the park for the public.
