Senator René García issues statement on the vote to vacate House Speaker Kevin McCarthy

The action taken by a handful of Republicans who joined with House Democrats to vacate House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is far from principled or courageous leadership. Our nation’s representative democracy makes governing difficult, as it should be. Speaker McCarthy kept the government open, cut deficit spending, and increased funding for border security,” said Senator García.

“Sadly, yesterday’s vote in Congress was driven by obstructionist extremists who voted with the Democrats and stood alongside the radical left. In their pursuits of self-importance, they put themselves before country and party and compromised the integrity of our government. Those seeking to truly govern our nation need not be silenced if we honestly want to bring our country together. The American people deserve better,” added Senator García.
