SFYS to perform live concert at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden
The South Florida Youth Symphony will perform a unique indoor/outdoor concert on Feb. 27 at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.

The Gold-Medal and Emmy-winning South Florida Youth Symphony , one of the nation’s leading youth music organizations, will perform a live concert, Feb. 27, at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Rd.

Sponsored by Fairchild and the Kiwanis Club of Homestead-South Dade, the concert — to be held in a unique indoor/outdoor setting — starts at 2 p.m. at Fairchild’s Garden House.

The event marks the second annual SFYS concert at Fairchild.

“This event, which will feature an indoor/outdoor setting, is the perfect venue,” said Marjorie Hahn, SFYS executive and music director. “Concertgoers will have the option of being indoors at the Garden House or — because the doors to the Garden House will be open — people can bring their lawn chairs and sit outside and enjoy the music and the beautiful surroundings. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

Masks are required for concertgoers who choose the indoor seating option. The performers also will wear masks.

The event marks the second straight year for participation of the Kiwanis Club of Homestead-South Dade — one of South Florida’s most active community service organizations — as a sponsor of the event.

“Exposure to culture of this type, particularly for the kids, is invaluable,” said club president Emily Guzman. “We believe that this type of exposure will broaden our kids’ horizons and perhaps inspire them to think of music as a career.”

In addition to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and the Kiwanis Club of Homestead-South Dade, the SFYS program is sponsored with the support of Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Miami-Dade County Mayor and County Commissioners, The Children’s Trust, Miami-Dade County Office of Management and Budget, State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, The Kirk Foundation, Publix Charities and Nancy Friday Foundation.

The concert is free with a paid admission to Fairchild. Adult admission is $24.95 and senior admission is $17.95. Students (with ID) are $15.95, and children (6-17) are $11.95. Admission for children under 6, Fairchild members and active military is free.
