Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade, the county’s prenatal and infant care coalition, has announced Shelia McCann as the new president of the board of directors.

McCann joined the board in 2016, previously serving as treasurer. Additionally, the board voted in Stephanie Triarhos-Suchlicki, PhD, as a new director.

In her newly appointed position as president, McCann will continue to serve as a champion in the community promoting the mission and goals of the Coalition. In conjunction with the board, McCann will review all programmatic and financial responsibilities of the Coalition and govern its direction accordingly.

McCann retired from a highly lauded management career marked by several “firsts,” including her participation in the first U.S. Department of Commerce Junior Fellows Program. Most prominently, McCann was selected as a political appointee in the Clinton Administration, serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

McCann holds a master’s degree in Guidance Counseling from the Tufts University Department of Education, as well as a master’s degree in the Science of Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management.
Dr. Triarhos-Suchlicki is a renowned area psychologist in clinical private practice. Most recently, she served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Miami, teaching graduate courses in psychology. Dr. Triarhos-Suchlicki earned both a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and a PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Miami.

The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade (HSCMD) is a community-based non-profit organization designated by the State of Florida Department of Health to serve as Miami-Dade County’s prenatal and infant care coalition. HSCMD partners with local community-based organizations and healthcare professionals to plan, coordinate and provide high quality health and education services to women of childbearing age, children to age 3 and their families.
