South Florida PBS (WPBT, WXEL, & Health Channel) invites you to join us tomorrow evening for an unforgettable night dedicated to filmmakers and film enthusiasts at the iconic Savor Cinema! This unique event will open with a pre-screening reception where local filmmakers and guests can mingle over complimentary drinks, light bites, and live music provided by Cuban American country music singer Ricky Valido.
The highlight of the evening will be the screening of Veritas, the acclaimed Bay of Pigs documentary directed by Eliecer Jimenez Almeida and featured in season 9 of PBS’ Reel South. Sixty-three years after the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, the surviving Cuban American dissidents tell the fuller story. In detailed interviews with the men who fled Cuba only to return alongside US military forces, they narrate the calamity of the US siege and the trauma they faced as prisoners.
Following the screening, Melissa Harmon, Principal Director of Content at South Florida PBS, will moderate a talk-back with the directors of Veritas, offering insights into the creation and impact of their film. The event will also include the exciting announcement of the winners of season 6 of film-maker, which is set to premiere in May on WPBT and WXEL.
